KPMG has signed on the line to move its Cardiff office to Cardiff Waterside’s flagship 3 Assembly Square building.

The professional advisory firm is taking circa 9,500 sq ft on a fifteen year lease in the Aviva Investor owned building on Cardiff Bay’s Britannia Quay. The firm’s 100 employees will move into the 66,215 sq ft waterfront building from their current location in Fitzalan Court off Newport Road in August.

Simon Jones, senior partner at KPMG’s Cardiff office, said: “We are delighted to be moving to this prestigious new location, which marks the beginning of the next chapter of KPMG’s history in Wales.  This move highlights our commitment both to the Welsh marketplace, where we work with some of its most exciting and dynamic businesses, and providing our team here in Cardiff with the best base from which to work.”

KPMG’s Cardiff office is one of the firm’s 22 UK locations and employs a 100-strong team of professionals who provide audit, tax and advisory services.

KPMG will join existing tenants M&A Solicitors and Gambit Corporate Finance at the speculatively built office.  The building has recently been shortlisted for awards by the British Council of Offices in the Commercial Workplace category for South Wales and the South West and by the Royal Institute of British Architects for its Wales awards.

Designed by architects Scott Brownrigg and sustainability consultants Arup, the building is engineered to maximise energy efficiency.  Features including a biomass boiler, chilled beams and rainwater harvesting have seen the building achieve the prestigious environmental stamp of BREEAM ‘Excellent’.

These state-of-the-art environmental technologies and systems are expected to reduce energy, water, maintenance and replacement running costs by up to 50% against a comparable building.

The offices also boast a highly-innovative design, with timber louvers, feature exterior glazing and a full-height atrium with staircase and lifts, designed to provide tenants with panoramic views over the waterfront and city.

Kate Simpson, Senior Surveyor, Cooke and Arkwright, acting for Cardiff Waterside said: "Through high profile lettings like this, Cardiff Waterside is establishing itself as the most prestigious business location in the region.  KPMG was attracted by the unparalleled environmental credentials of the building, the vibrancy of the waterfront location and the on-site multi storey car park.  We’re confident that other organisations will soon be making the same decision to locate in the Bay.”

Cardiff Waterside comprises over 500,000 sq ft of contemporary office space encompassed in a selection of eight flexible offices at the cutting edge of design.  Planning consent has been granted for another 500,000 sq ft.
