About Cardiff

Cardiff

The Cardiff city-region offers your business a location with a wealth of opportunity to offset the downturn and emerge stronger than before.

The new Cardiff Central Business District, the UK’s only enterprise zone for Financial and Professional services companies is a major new development project in the heart of the city centre.  The first phase will see the transformation of the train and bus stations into an integrated transport hub and the development of a new Central Square.

The BBC’s new drama village at Roath Lock in Porth Teigr, Cardiff Bay officially opened in March 2012 will see major existing and forthcoming network drama productions such as  Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, Upstairs Downstairs and S4C’s Pobol y Cwm filmed in Cardiff.  On the same site at Porth Teigr, the Welsh Government is in the process of developing a new Digital Media Centre to house start-ups and smes which will open towards the end of 2012.

A compact city with all the attributes of a capital, Cardiff’s human-scale allows business networks to flourish and provides easy access to Welsh Government Ministers and Cardiff city-region decision-makers.

Cardiff’s competitive advantage in terms of business costs is illustrated by DTZ’s 2011 report on office occupancy costs, where it ranked the lowest of the survey’s UK locations.
Its modern infrastructure enables your business to access London in two hours and other major cities in the UK very quickly through the road or rail network. Heathrow Airport is an hour and a half’s drive away and Cardiff Airport has flights to UK and European cities, with onward flights to global destinations via the Amsterdam hub.

Cardiff’s digital advantage is emphasised by BT’s investment into next generation access.  The city is included in BT’s further £2.5 billion investment into the roll-out of fibre broadband, enabling access to superfast broadband capability across the majority of the city.

The city’s changing skyline reflects the capital’s rapid growth, but life in Cardiff is also about the great outdoors, clean fresh air and healthy living. With no tedious commute, you’ll have more time to enjoy family life and explore Cardiff’s wonderful open spaces, and its many cultural and recreational facilities.
